Agency — policies issued by partner insurers

Ethos operates as an agency rather than a carrier, selling policies from third-party insurers through its own application flow. Where it stands out is speed: most applicants complete a health questionnaire instead of a paramedical exam, and many get a decision in minutes.

It also covers more ground than the term-only platforms. Alongside term life it offers whole life, final expense, and indexed universal life, and it writes to age 85 — which makes it one of the few no-exam options that works for older applicants.

Read the coverage limits carefully, because they step down sharply with age. Applicants aged 20 to 50 can apply for up to $3 million of term coverage; from 51 to 85 the ceiling drops to $500,000. If you are in your fifties and need more than that, look elsewhere.

Best for: Shoppers who want speed and more than one product type
